In the workplace, DCD may affect performance not through knowledge or ability, but through the process of completing tasks.
This can include:
- Difficulty with handwriting, typing speed, or fine motor tasks.
- Slower task completion due to planning and checking demands.
- Challenges with organisation, time management, and prioritisation.
- Increased fatigue, especially in busy, fast-paced environments.
Many adults with DCD bring valuable strengths to the workplace such as creativity, persistence, empathy, big-picture thinking, and problem solving. When environments are adjusted to reduce unnecessary executive and motor load, people with DCD often perform at their best.
I work with adults to understand how DCD shows up in their work role and to develop tailored strategies and reasonable adjustments that support performance, energy management, and confidence at work. Please do reach out if you need support.
